Motherload, features work by Austin-based artists Ana Treviño and Christine Garvey. Both artists mine their roles as mothers, filtering their lived experiences through various historical and cultural tropes of motherhood. The resulting work serves as a way to challenge prevailing stereotypes and complicate the experiences of motherhood. Motherload offers a nuanced perspective on motherhood. Treviño and Garvey actively challenge prevailing stereotypes and complicate the experiences of motherhood by confronting misrepresentations, reimagining narratives, and embracing the full spectrum of emotions and transformations inherent in mothering.

Three mothers in a domestic space do their daily chores with a mix of joy, boredom and disinterest. We enter their psyches and slowly, they reveal secrets about their identities. Peggy relishes in her sexual desires. Linda beams with happiness as she finds her children's toys. Ana struggles with the mundanity of doing the laundry and making dinner. As they cycle through their chores, the Aztec goddess Coatlicue interjects
